a. The libraries and librarians play a key teaching, support and collaborative role in carrying out the broader school mission. The libraries resources, personnel and technology support the curriculum and instruction to help students become efficient and responsible users and creators of ideas and information in a global world, as well as promote a love of life-long reading and learning.
b. The libraries and librarians provide access to a wide-range of physical and digital resources within a safe and inviting environment that is conducive to thinking, sharing and learning. Through the collaborative teaching of information literacy, communication, and technology skills, the libraries provide students with the tools to be actively engaged in their own learning.
We believe students must
. Have physical and intellectual access to a wide and balanced variety of information and points of view.
. Evolve in a safe and stimulating environment.
. Have access to 21st century tools.
. Develop necessary skills to become active participants in their own learning and global citizenship.
In 1939, the American Library Association set up a set of principles to help librarians serve their patrons equitably. Those guidelines are called The Library Bill of Rights. Take a look at them.
